For some time the Loan Fund has wanted to establish a location of its own, a space that provides private meeting areas, a training room and more accessibility, and creates some affordable housing. After three years the Loan Fund finally got an opportunity. We have purchased a 3 unit building on Prince Edward Street, which will be gutted and renovated. Follow all the ups and downs of our exciting journey here!
Some Background
Our objective is to renovate the building, provide two units of affordable housing for single working mothers and provide a street level location for our organization. The interior and exterior surfaces will be removed and replaced with new. This includes new windows and doors. Plumbing and electrical wiring will be replaced from top to bottom. A new modified roof will be installed. The two apartments on the second and third floors will include two bedrooms and both will have a deck and access to a landscaped back yard. A new concrete slab will poured for the ground floor. This ground floor will become the new location for the Saint John Community Loan Fund. It will include three offices, a family friendly reception area, and a large training/meeting room. State of the art networking will run throughout.
Beyond the purchase price, the Saint John Community Loan Fund will be investing close to $150,000 into the renovation of this building. Financial partners include the Province of NB RRAP Program, and the Greater Saint John Community Foundation.
